Lessons in Boldness

20

As we prepare to step into 2025, I’m reflecting on the boldness of writing history—of uncovering stories that deserved to be told decades ago but were forgotten, silenced, or somehow overshadowed.

For those unfamiliar, the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as “The Six Triple Eight,” was an all-Black, all-female unit during World War II. Their mission? To tackle the monumental task of clearing a massive backlog of millions of letters and packages critical to soldier morale—a mission embodied by their motto: “No Mail, Low Morale.” I must admit, I only learned about their incredible story thanks to Tyler Perry’s decision to bring it to life on screen.

My personal Takeaway?

Sometimes, being bold isn’t optional—it’s the mission.

The Six Triple Eight reminds me of the power of grit and purpose. These women worked tirelessly, proving that even against the tide of doubt and discrimination, great things are possible when you stay focused on your mission.

Here’s what I’m carrying into 2025:

1️⃣ Our stories matter. Let’s tell them unapologetically. Your story, my story, and the stories of those we admire. Visibility transforms legacies.

2️⃣ Boldness inspires. The ones who write history and challenge the norms are often the ones who leave the biggest impact.

3️⃣ Keep pushing. The Six Triple Eight had the odds stacked against them. But they didn’t stop, and neither should we.

As we close 2024, I challenge you to think about the story you’re writing. How can your actions today inspire the next generation to remember, dream, and achieve?

To 2025: A year for courage, visibility, and impact. 🚀

What’s one bold step you’re planning to take next year? Let’s share and support each other.

(P.S. If you haven’t watched “The Six Triple Eight” yet, do yourself a favor and start your 2025
