There are hundreds of paths up the mountain, all leading in the same direction, so it doesn’t matter which path you take as long as it leads you to your summit.
January marked a year since I fully decided to fully embark on my Cybersecurity journey. And I have to admit that only recently did things really start to feel real. So I decided to create a monthly series review where I will be documenting my breaking into cybersecurity journey. Ever since I started my coding journey 9 years ago where I wrote my first blog to capture the process from, the excitement, to the doubts, the ugly moments where I felt like I couldn’t make it to the / eye-opening moments where I felt my passion and determination force me to keep going despite the sleepless nights after spending hours trying to understand why my code wasn’t working, till today I can still feel the frustration.
There is a joy of sharing with others who have embarked on the same journey.
So How Is It Going?
Well like some might know I gave birth to my daughter in December and I had to make an adjustment to becoming a working mother of two, so it has been quite the challenge between healing, sleepless nights and dealing with my 3-year very active and honestly crazy toddler, it’s not the easiest of things, but I feel that my learning process is going well despite all that, but also feel like there is lots of room for improvement especially when it comes to time management.
For a long time i never truly saw how dropping out of school really impacted me, because I still managed to find my passion for coding, but now that I have taken up some serious studying for the SSCP, where it’s more theoretical than practical I have to admit that I struggled, and I am starting to see the discipline that I lack which is normally taught early on from going to school, so I feel like I am all over the place, because I have so many things to learn to reach my goal, but sometimes we keep forgetting that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
So What Have I Learned/Done So Far
Here is a list of things that I have accomplished in January:
- – So I fully invested my self with Tryhackme, and it’s challenges and I have to admit that it’s fun and addictive.
- – Started Cisco 200-301Certified Network Associate training
- – The cybersecurity industry has such a supportive community with a desire to share their knowledge, I made so many great connections.
- – Finished reading the book “cybersecurity for dummies” by Joseph Steinberg.
- – Started re-working my PYTHON & MYSQL with hands-on projects.
What’s My Goal For This New Month
My goal for February is to concentrate my time on just a few learning plans on Tryhackme and Codeacedemy python and MySQL projects for example, instead of signing up for every Cybersecurity course, I can find online.
This month my priorities are:
- Start reading “Learn Network Analysis Using Wireshark 3” by Mohamad Mahjoub (Packt Publishing).
- – Tryhackme: Complete Beginner Learning Path.
- – Finish a Python & MySQL project.
As I look back at all the things that I have accomplished and learned this month, I can say that I do feel proud. Especially since I have had plenty of opportunities to give in to the exhaustion or excuses but i stayed the course every day no matter what, so I am going to keep being motivated and stay the course on my journey. Hopefully, I will have lots to reflect on at the end of this month.
Have a great month & stay safe!
